The Midland Group Privacy and Company Policy

The Midland Group is committed to operating under the highest standards of ethical conduct. Part of the purpose of this Privacy and Company Policy is to communicate our commitment to ensuring the safe use of protected health information according to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and to disclose what and how information obtained through the use of our website is gathered and used.

Protected Health Information

All Midland Employees are trained and tested on procedures designed to ensure the protection of protected health information. Regular refresher training is provided to all Midland staff by Midland’s Chief Compliance Officer or their designee. Specific measures are taken in all physical locations to ensure the security of protected health information in whatever form it is stored. For example, our training directs us to secure all documents containing protected health information in locked cabinets when not in use. Documents containing protected health information are shredded when no longer needed. Employees who do not adhere to our HIPAA policies and procedures are subject to disciplinary actions up to and including termination. Midland uses a custom-designed database application to track, manage, and document our work for every patient we encounter. The database is housed in a secure location and is protected with the most advanced technology available. All data is secure with the latest encryption technology, meeting or exceeding all current HIPAA data security standards.

Unsecured Electronic Methods of Communication

We offer, but do not require, some forms of communication that cannot reasonably be guaranteed to be fully secure or confidential, including web-based unencrypted email, website submissions, online messages, third-party online services, cellular phone calls, text messaging, voicemail, online video conferencing, and fax services.

If you wish to use the unsecured methods of communication described above for communications that may include your protected health information, you will be asked to confirm, either in writing or by telephonic recording, that you understand and accept the risk that such communications cannot be guaranteed to be fully secured and could be intercepted, such as by hackers.

We advise you against using employer-owned or -operated computers or email in communications with us and will not assume any responsibility or consequences created from the use of employer-owned computers and email. We also advise against communicating health information about sensitive health topics (for example, substance abuse issues, mental health issues, or HIV/AIDS) through unsecured means, whether internet-based or otherwise.
